Expect traffic delays in North Walton

Northwest Florida Daily News

Motorists can expect delays when traveling through north Walton County this afternoon. The funeral service for Army Sgt. Tim “Timmy” Padgett, who was killed in Afghanistan, will start at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church on Circle Drive in DeFuniak Springs.

Burial with full military honors will follow at Glendale Memorial Nature Preserve, which is north of DeFuniak Springs.

The procession is expected to start at about 2:30 and run until about 4 p.m., according to DeFuniak Springs Police spokesman Eddie Nelson. Anyone traveling on U.S. Highway 90 and State Road 83 in north Walton can expect to see road closures during this time.

Padgett grew up in DeFuniak Springs and graduated from Walton High School in 1997. He was a Green Beret medic in the U.S. Army Special Forces assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg.
