Natural Burial in Canada (audio)

Canada has an active green burial movement. Members have been pushing for eco-friendly funerals for years. And beginning next year, the first official green burial sites will open.

Loved ones will be wrapped in shrouds and laid to rest in a forest clearing. No grave stones. Just trees. For some Canadians, this is the only way they want to go. But it’s been a big fight with the powerful funeral industry to allow people to chose how they die. We hear from Mike Salisbury, president of the Natural Burial Co-operative of Canada and from David Erb, a funeral director who’s decided his industry needs greening.

It’s about time we got natural burial happening in Canada. It is the only type of burial that makes sense from an environmental stand point. Where will the first one be located?
