Green Springs Natural Burial Cemetery Opening

IMG_8858 Founding members of Canada’s First Natural Burial Co-operative traveled today to attend the opening celebration of the newest natural burial preserve in the United States, the Green Springs Natural Burial Preserve in Ithaca, New York.

It was an excellent opportunity to show support for Mary Woodsen, Carl Leopold, Susan Thomas, Jennifer Johnson, Joel Rabinowitz and many of the other volunteers who have worked fastidiously over the past 5 years to bring environmental conservation and holistic end of life burial practices together for the community of Ithaca, New York and the entire finger lakes region.

It was also an opportunity for Natural Burial Co-operative members, Michael Driscoll, Michael Salisbury and Shannon Roy to meet Dr. Billy Campbell who began the natural burial movement in North America and lead the opening dedication speach of the Green Springs Natural Burial Preserve.IMG_8855

The event attracted almost 100 attendees including founders, volunteers, local townspeople and visitors from many areas of the United States and Canada. Good coverage in the local news ensured that the message of the opening reached many in the area. Additional coverage can be found at the Ithaca Journal and you can see photographs from our own Shannon Roy at the Natural Burial Co-operatives Photosite.
